BIOGRAPHY Composer and pianist Besarion "Gabriel" Alaverdashvili was born and raised in the Iberian Kingdom know today as the Republic of Georgia. The source of Gabriel's creative force derives from Georgia's rich and diverse musical culture. Georgians love life with a passion rarely seen in the modern world, and pour that fervor into everything they do. Besarion inherited this great tradition and has created music that chronicles not only the country's history, but also defines everyday life. Stravinsky described Georgian folk music as having more "new musical ideas than all of contemporary music." Gabriel's compositions embrace these treasures, combining them with the influences of great classical composers that have inspired him. The result is an outpouring of the harmonious spiritual culture of his people that is inevitably tinged with the passion and pain of the Georgian psyche. Immigrating to the United States in 1998, Gabriel began to realize a lifelong dream to write musical scores. Currently he is the composer in residence for Reverie Pictures, and his composition "Shvilebi" is featured in the new movie The Longest Yard Sale. Besarion has already become notable as one of the great prodigies to come out of the former Soviet Union. His tonal music is colored by an expressive use of harmony and dissonance. Fast-working, productive and full of music, he is currently in the studio working on another album. With these latest compositions, Gabriel hopes to give flight to his aspirations and succeed in introducing the creative imagination of the Georgian nation, it's highly developed auditory sensitivity, and complex and musical thinking. Besarion "Gabriel" Alaverdashvili's latest CD is titled Life Force. Listen to samples of Besarion's CD online - Life Force Samples.
